Over 100m2 extension of additional living space plus renovation of existing home. Complete roof replacement, new windows, and flooring throughout. This included excavation below the existing house to create a self-contained 1-bedroom unit with separate entrance. The home received energy efficiency upgrades by adding insulation, better windows, rainwater harvesting, solar panels and sealing of draughts.

The risk and challenges of renovating and extending an older home meant that the work needed to be carried out carefully in stages to not disturb parts of the home that the owners wished to retain. The owner wanted to maintain the original look of the house so bricks from the existing house were salvaged during any demolition work including cut out for windows and doors and used for the extension. To preserve the classic look of the home, the concrete roof tiles were replaced with terracotta which blends with other homes on this street.
